YMCA Wahoos is a USA Swimming sanctioned program designed for swimmers aged 6 and up from beginner through national levels. The Wahoos swim team provides children and families with opportunities to experience competitive swimming in a fun, challenging and positive environment with a highly experienced and accomplished coaching staff. The coaching staff stresses individual self-improvement as each swimmer’s primary goal.
The YMCA Wahoos offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. It is the goal of the Wahoos to challenge and develop each swimmer to reach his/her highest potential as a swimmer and as an individual and team member. The Wahoos set out to create a competitive team that focuses on developing the technique of each stroke, starts, turns and finishes to help our kids reach their full potential within swimming. We are making a difference in the swimming community one swimmer at a time.

Athletes will be placed in the appropriate group and lane assignment based on stroke ability, skill level, age, maturity level and at the head coach/assistant coaches’ discretion. See swim group requirements below.
All swimmers are required to be members of the YMCA of Northern Colorado to participate.
Practices are held at the Johnstown Y.
Green Group
Minimum age 6. Must be able to complete a 50-yard freestyle, 50-yard backstroke, 25-yard breaststroke and 25-yard butterfly. Focus is on learning the fundamentals of swimming through stroke technique development, endurance training and speed work in preparation for competition. Swimmers in the Green Group are not required to compete in USA Swimming meets.

Orange Group
Minimum age 8. Must be able to complete 6x100 on 1:30; must complete a legal 200 IM; must maintain 50% practice attendance.
Monthly Fee: $60
Blue Group
Minimum age 6. Must be efficient in two strokes and able to complete 2x25s of those strokes; must be able to complete 4x25 kick; must be able to swim 75 yards without stopping.
Purple Group
Minimum age 13. Must be able to complete 6x100 on 1:15; must complete a legal 400 IM; must maintain 70% practice attendance.
Gold Group
Minimum age 11. Must be able to complete 12x50 on 1:00; must complete a legal 100 IM; must maintain 50% practice attendance.

Swim gear is available for purchase at Swim Outlet. By purchasing your gear from the team store, you will be supporting the competitive swim team programs at the YMCA of Northern Colorado.
